coming soon ...
Julia and Alex trained at Hornsey College of Art
and have worked together since then as successful creative artists and gifted
teachers.
Julia is a member of the 62 Group of Textile Artists and the Society of Designer
Craftsmen. Her work focuses on combining a range of materials, stitched textiles
and objects found on the ‘path of life’. She uses these to form
new symbolic objects and sculptures of personal and symbolic significance.
Her work is represented in public and private collections in this country
and abroad and has been featured in several videos, TV programmes, books and
magazines
Alex is an artist who uses a combination of stitch and graphic techniques
influenced by geometry and music. Alex sees his drawing as a performance so
each is a journey of discovery in which process is all important, the end
result unpredictable. His work is in private collections in the U.K., Australia,
Canada, Holland and Japan
Together they founded the Opus School of Textile Arts in 1997, which rapidly
grew to become the renowned institution it is today. Julia oversees the teaching
programme and is Course Director for the BA (Hons) Embroidered Textiles Degree
Course, run in collaboration with Middlesex University. Alex combines his
administrative role as Managing Director of Opus with an active participation
in teaching drawing, design and personal creativity.
They will tutor a creative design and stitched textile workshop, ‘A
Sense of Place’, 23 - 25 July in St Ives in conjunction with their exhibition.
